The Return of Blake’s 7!

B7Well, I’m all kinds of excited. One of my favorite TV shows ever, Blake’s 7, has garnered interest in a remake for years, but now it’s starting to look like the ScyFy channel has made a firm commitment to Freemantle Media International to produce  “a revolutionary reinvention of the long-running BBC series.” The show will be written by Joe Pokaski (Heroes, CSI) and directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, GoldenEye). Full statement is here.

I have my concerns, of course. I’m hoping they don’t make it too slick and pretty. I’m hoping they get actors who are more than pretty faces. I hope they don’t mess with the ending. But in the end, it’s a win-win. They mess it up too bad, I’ll abandon it, probably gripe a bunch, and go rewatch the wonderful original. I have to admit I’m really looking forward to seeing Blake’s 7 updated and with a decent budget. Am I alone?

I’ve blogged about B7 several times. In Praise of Dangerous Men went up at The Galaxy Express way back in 2008. In 2011 I blogged about Servalan: Queen of Villains, and just last year, when the remake rumors surfaced, I rounded up a bunch of fans to discuss how we’d handle the remake in the  Let The Fangirls Speak! panel.

Yes, my geekiness doth overfloweth.

  1. I’m both excited and nervous – SyFy has a nasty habit of cutting shows after a series – and like you I’m worried it’s going to be lots of pretty faces and special effects with no substance. I’ve just rewatched the first two series on DVD – must buy the rest!

  2. Ooo. we’ll see how it goes. Definitely interested in seeing where they take it.
