Sites I Love

I blogged A LOT leading up to the release of Spice ‘n’ Solace… and I just remembered about this blog this morning, through the headache and sore throat.  Since I am woefully ill-prepared, I thought I’d toss out a few sites that I enjoy visiting.

1. Think Geek — Yes, it’s an online store, but where else can you get baby bibs that say “Zombie Snack” or shirts that say “Soylent Green is Me”?  Totally awesome.  This is also where my hubby bought my Doctor Who sonic screwdriver and my zombie magnetic poetry.  Fun, fun, fun!  Although there’s a bit of a bacon obsession that I’m not sure I quite understand.

2. XKCD — Cerebral comics that deal with science, math, physics, technology… mostly, they’re hilarious.  Actually, I’m assuming they’re all funny, but I don’t get all of them.  Sad but true!  I own a poster of the Map of Online Communities 2010 which is highly amusing, especially the bit about twitter.

3. Gallery of Regrettable Food — Okay, this has ZERO to do with anything writerly or sci-fi-y and everything to do with James Lileks’ ability to make me laugh out loud.  Meat has never been so funny.  But, if you want to go sci-fi, he’s just started a new feature: 50 Sci-Fi Crapfests.  He’s only at 6, so lots of good stuff to come!

4. Evil Editor — This is a great site for when I need to pretend I’m still working.  Among other things, people submit query letters for books they’re trying to sell, which Evil Editor will critique. He’s very up-front about the fact the site is designed for entertainment first, but I’ve actually learned a lot about query letters (and what doesn’t work) while laughing so hard, I’ve cried.

So, short and sweet.  There are various sci-fi blogs & such that I read, but I think I’ll save those for a time when I can do them justice and not when my head feels like it will explode!

  1. I love EE too. His comments make me laugh out loud, prompting questions and/or curious looks from my kids.

What’s wrong with being obsessed with bacon? Mmmmm….bacon….

Thanks for the list. I love finding new blogs that will distract me from my wip 😉

    Feel better!
